You might have read my previous post about goals I’ve set. If not, go check it out.

I think I’ll be able to handle it. Here’s a brief update of my plans thus far.

Spinning: I spun 2 ounces of fiber yesterday. That’s pretty good to me. If you think about most of the lager balls of yarn being 3-4oz, and I did 2 in one day… The last 4oz bag of roving took me almost a month to spin into singles.

A quick breakdown of terms for non-spinners:

A single is the first step. If you were to take a section of most yarns, you’ll see multiple plys or strands. Each one of those strands is a single. Singles are made, then spun together (or plied) to make a sturdier yarn. Some people do use singles straight up, but there is a chance that there may be a weak spot and your entire piece falls apart (did that give you shivers too?)

Roving is the fluff you use to spin singles. I’m still not completely familiar with the different terms used besides roving. Some people get rather picky about what roving is or is not. I don’t know. To me, roving is the raw material of spinning. If I’m wrong, sorry :P

So back to my story. I spun 2oz of the gorgeous roving that I’ve had sitting in a box for over 6 months. I bought it at the NH Sheep and Wool festival last year. I went a little crazy that day. I bought books and yarn and roving and a spindle and spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money. But the good part is, I’m still using stuff that I bought. And there’s nothing I bought that I’ve regretted. SO that’s a good sign, right? The bad part is, my shoulder is killing me. So now I need to take a break from it for a bit.

Also, last night I had a dream. In my dream, I had the best organizational systems ever. Ok, stop laughing… Seriously, don’t laugh. I’m pretty good at organizing, but only for other people. I can create new and practical systems, and they work well. I just can’t seem to do it for myself. But in this dream, everything was super organized in my apartment. I had a system for keeping track of projects I am working on. I can still clearly visualize this system. And best of all, I have the pieces needed to create it all sitting at home. I don’t even need to buy anything yet!!! So, what is this system? Well here’s where I get mean. I can’t tell you yet. I know, I’m sorry. I just don’t want anyone to steal my idea just yet.

Why does i t have to be top secret? Because it’s going to be my entry for a competition on a website I came across this past week. The site is Craftster, a forum where people post the projects they’re working on, sometimes they post tutorials, sometimes just asking for suggestions. And it turns out that they have craft challenges (I think on a monthly basis). It’s free to enter, the site is free, and it’s fun to see what everyone has done to fit the theme. This current challenge is to craft something, anything, that will help you achieve one of your goals for 2009. The goal can be anything, the object you create can be anything. But it does need to fit the theme. The deadline for posting entries for this challenge is Feb 5th. Click here for more details, or to visit the site. You don’t need to be a member to view the posts.

Ok, I think that’s enough for right now. Sorry for the long post. I will start adding pictures soon!
